Since
marble and even granite are porous, NEVER use topical or surface coating
on marble or granite floors as this will close the pores and consequently
the stone will not be able to breathe out resulting, on the long term
with cracks and discoloration. To reduce etch marks and prevent stains
and moisture from filtering into the marble, protect marble and granite
floors and tops with a penetrating sealer like Marble Renewal's Peneguard®.
Invest in a good floor mat and place it at the main door of your
premises to prevent sand and grit from spreading on the floor causing
scratches and dullness. Marble floors need to be kept clean and
remember dust and grit are marble worst enemies. They become very
abrasive especially under the pressure of foot traffic. This in
turn will take the polish off the floor. Rubber backed mats should
be avoided as they may bleed into the stone while moist, causing
stains that may be extremely hard to remove. Keep your mats clean
and dry.
Dust mop daily or more (depending on the traffic) especially under
the floor mat. Do not use oil-treated dust mops on marble surfaces.
Damp mopping is needed once a week in homes and daily in commercial
properties. This should be applied on a side by side motion as you
walk backwards. Rinse mop often and change water if needed depending
how wide the area is. Tops should be cleaned frequently especially
after use with damp rag and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Use Marble
Renewal's neutral Ph cleaner CPR® (Cleaner, Protector, Restorer)
which comes in concentrate by mixing it up to 10-1 with water.
Place all plants on a special base to prevent deep stains and scratches.
Protect all furniture legs that come in contact with the marble
with special felt pads or plastic. Moving unprotected objects will
scratch marble surfaces.
NEVER use acid base products that are low in Ph such as vinegar
or dish soap. Powdered cleansers will scratch or damage marble.
Make sure to keep acidic substances such as fruit juices, wine,
soft drinks, vinegar, etc. off the marble surface. Avoid setting
beverage glasses directly on marble as they leave rings. Wipe off
and clean immediately if spills occur, using the CPR or just clean
water. Since marble and limestone contain calcium, the longer an
acid base substance sits on the surface the deeper the etch mark
and the higher the cost to remove. NEVER use generic products such
as window cleaner.. If you run out of your neutral cleaner, warm
water will be just fine. In the meantime call us to arrange a dispatch
of our CPR®
Have your floor cleaned and polished once a year by Marble Renewal. Doing that will keep the level of the shine steady and it won't
deteriorate rapidly (which will require restoration). Marble Renewal
offers commercial properties a maintenance program that will keep
their foyer floors presentable.
